Fairview Health Services Medical Laboratory Technician in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota

Overview

Fairview Health Services is looking for a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) at M Health Fairview Clinic - Brooklyn Park (https://mhealthfairview.org/locations/m-health-fairview-clinic---brooklyn-park) , M Health Fairview Clinic - Elk River (https://mhealthfairview.org/locations/m-health-fairview-clinic---elk-river) , M Health Fairview Clinic - Rogers (https://mhealthfairview.org/locations/m-health-fairview-clinic---rogers) . Primary shift times vary and have a start time from 6:30am to Noon Monday through Friday. These are 8-hour shifts. This position includes one weekend shift (Saturday or Sunday) at an Urgent Care site (Brooklyn Park). Weekend rotations average every 5th weekend. Schedule is subject to change to meet department staffing needs, including floating to other nearby clinics.

Responsibilities Job Description

The MLT plays an important role in providing quality, proficient and professional laboratory services to diverse populations within an ambulatory healthcare environment. The Medical Laboratory Technician performs waived, moderate, or high complexity testing, correlates data-based knowledge of technical and instrumental conditions affecting testing results and performs quality control procedures within established parameters. This position also may be involved in laboratory specimen collection, safe and secure specimen handling, ensuring efficient workflow and may schedule tests and provides results as appropriate. The MLT works independently under general supervision.

Job Expectations: follow established guidelines to obtain specimens, perform testing and report results, consistently implement and adhere to the laboratory customer service standards. The standards include promoting teamwork, successful communication, and conflict resolution, supports and adheres to laboratory SOPs, quality assurance, performance improvement and compliance programs recognizing trends and identifying when additional reporting, communication or other action is appropriate. Demonstrates competency and compliance with all regulatory agency policies.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a lab science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution. Qualified to work in a highly complex laboratory as mandated in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 (CLIA)

  • Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) approved laboratory certification such as ASCP, AAB, or AMT. If not certified at time of hire, must acquire certification within 12 months.

  • BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience as a MLT in an ambulatory or acute healthcare environment

Other Required Skills

  • Good phlebotomy skills.
