Overview

St John's is a 184-bed facility which offers a wide variety of diagnostic and therapeutic services. To meet the needs of our growing community, St. John's Hospital provides innovative technologies and services such as the intensivist program (on-site critical care physician specialists), 24-hour in-house obstetrics coverage and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Assists surgical team in the care of surgical patients in the operating room.Assists the surgeon- passes instruments during procedure , hemostasis, maintains sterile conditions, assists in applying dressing, and assists in post-operative clean-up

With 7 Operating Rooms we average between 20 - 25 cases a day. Our specialties include: Robotics, Cancer Care, Da Vinci Si, Podiatry, Hand, Plastics, Oral and Vascular

This is a benefit eligible position, working .7 (56 hours per two weeks) working evenings (11 am - 7:30 or 2:45 pm - 11:15) and occasional weekends. No nights or holidays! We offer a $7,500 sign on bonus!

Responsibilities/Job Description

  • Review case cart to ensure necessary equipment is available for case.

  • Scrub-in to sterile field and set-up instrumentation for case.

  • Assists the surgeon by passing instruments during procedure.

  • Assists with OR room turnover between cases.

  • Gathers OR equipment and positioning devices as needed, cleans and returns to storage locations.

  • Counts instruments at the completion to ensure all items are accounted for.

  • Ensures specimens are correctly identified prior to sending to laboratory for testing.

  • Verifies medications are accurately measured and labeled.

  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.

  • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements.

  • Performs other responsibilities as needed/assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

Trade or Vocational Certification in Surgical Technology (or in process)

Basic Life Support

Certified Surgical Technologist or Certified TS-C required within in 90 days of hire
