Fairview Health Services Nutrition Services Clerk in Maplewood, Minnesota


Receives and processes all telephone and computer requisitions and special food requests received in the Nutrition Care diet office. Functions as a communication link between internal and external customers as well as the patient care area and the food service department.

Responsibilities/Job Description

  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations and policies, procedures and standards

  • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements to achieve clinical, satisfaction and/or efficiency outcomes

  • Receives and processes telephone and computer requisitions for diet orders and changes appropriately to ensure each patient receives a meal in accordance with the prescribed diet order

  • Maintains accurate records to provide for report generation

  • Manages menu for each patient

  • Communicates with patient, nursing staff, nutrition care staff and other appropriate staff about patient-related nutrition and menu needs

  • Performs department support duties such as receiving incoming telephone calls, transferring calls and relaying messages


Required Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent

  • Understanding of modified diets

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 year health care food service experience preferred

Other required skills:

  • Achieves thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task

  • Ability to use a computer and applications that are associated with performing basic work tasks (use a mouse, navigate in Windows, Outlook, etc)

  • Skilled in developing effective rapport with customers, co-workers, or families, actively listening to develop a positive connection

  • Knowledge and skills related to applying mathematical tools and methods for routine calculations

  • Ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures

  • Cultural competence comprises four components: (a) Awareness of one's own cultural worldview, (b) Attitude towards cultural differences, (c) Knowledge of different cultural practices and worldviews, and (d) cross-cultural skills

  • Knowledge of appropriate data collection policy and procedures, filing systems, data management systems, and programs

  • Ability to compile, assimilate, organize, and store printed and electronic information
