Fairview Health Services Anatomic Pathology Technician in Minneapolis, Minnesota
Fairview Health Services is looking for an Anatomic Pathology Technician for the Cytology Laboratory at University of Minnesota Medical Center-East Bank. This is a fulltime, day shift opening.
The Anatomic Pathology Technician (APT) performs all work processes necessary for the production of microscopic preparations used for high complexity testing as defined by CLIA'88. The APT possesses working knowledge of the pathology laboratories (Cytology, Cytogenetics, Hematopathology and Histology), performs routine and specialty procedures, recognizes problems, identifies basic causes, and makes corrections using established protocols. The APT correlates data based on knowledge of technical and instrumental conditions affecting diagnostic test results and performs quality control procedures within established parameters. The APT collaborates with the customers of the laboratory to promote customer satisfaction. The APT works independently under general supervision.
Assists in procurement of Cytology specimens (pap tests, fine needle aspirations, and body fluids)
Processes specimens including test setup
Assesses integrity of all specimens for testing/processing.
Verifies correct identification of specimens/tissue before testing/processing.
Follows established guidelines for determining priority of specimen testing/processing and procurement.
Understands the organizational structure of clinics in relation to the different hospital sites.
Communicates, in a professional manner, different collection/fixation instructions to professionals collecting specimens.
Demonstrates working knowledge of the pathology/clinical laboratory and performs routine and specialty procedures.
Operates laboratory instrumentation and information systems according to written procedures.
Works independently under general supervision.
Completes specified maintenance on instruments according to written procedures
Documents maintenance of laboratory instruments and stains
Ordering and maintaining adequate laboratory supply volumes.
Maintains a clean and organized working environment
Accurately describes the appearance of the gross specimen or other specimens upon receipt
Accurately time/date stamp specimens upon receipt following departmental guidelines.
- Associates degree, 24 credits college coursework with emphasis in biology & chemistry, and/or 2 years of applicable laboratory experience.
Prefer BS degree or Medical Assistant degree
1-2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory or anatomic laboratory
