Fairview Health Services Legal Counsel in Minneapolis, Minnesota
Under the general direction of the Chief Legal Officer, you will be an integral member of a highly talented team, with responsibility to provide valued legal counsel across Fairview’s businesses. The Legal Counsel position supports and reports to senior attorneys on labor and employment related matters and in drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of health system contracts. You will work with other attorneys and clients to understand issues and priorities, apply sound legal analysis, and identify and assess risks and opportunities, and provide actionable recommendations and solutions that meet client needs while maintaining compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and Fairview policies.
Provide knowledge and practical legal advice on federal, state, and local labor and employment law topics, including, but not limited to, nondiscrimination and anti-harassment, wage and hour laws, leaves of absence, accommodations, discipline and discharge, labor relations, employment agreements, non-competes and non-solicitation agreements, and policy related issues.
Manage labor and employment-related investigations, demand letters, charges, and litigation in partnership with Risk and outside counsel, as needed.
Develop and revise HR policies and procedures.
Develop and lead training on a range of employment and labor law topics.
Draft, review and negotiate a variety of health system contracts, including service, supply chain, senior services, real estate, clinical research, lab, imaging, and IT and develop contract templates.
Develop, revise and mature contracting processes and policies and train management and executives on an ongoing basis.
Handle multiple legal matters simultaneously and coordinate with others on regulatory, compliance, and operational issues.
Stay apprised of important changes in law and regulation, and counsel senior attorneys and business leaders on such changes.
Act as a resource to other members of the Legal Department.

- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school with a strong academic record.
- Licensed to practice law in Minnesota or currently licensed in another state and have the ability to become licensed in MN within one year of employment.
2 to 5 years of legal experience in a law firm or healthcare organization, with primary focus on employment and labor law issues; experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts preferred.
Substantive knowledge and experience with employment and/or labor law issues and litigation.
Strong analytical skills and ability to develop solutions and recommendations quickly and accurately.
Excellent judgment and communication skills (both written and oral).
Ability to prioritize projects, stay on task, and manage workload in a fast-paced work environment.
Pragmatic business-focused attorney who can work collaboratively to effectively manage legal risks.
Comfortable working independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Ability and willingness to assist with other projects as assigned by senior attorneys.
