Fairview Health Services Manager, Data Technologies in Minneapolis, Minnesota
The Manager of Data Technologies is an important part of a team responsible for delivery, maintenance and support of data technology solutions that enable Fairview Health Service’s ability to deliver outstanding patient care, great patient experiences and efficient business processes. This leader will establish and maintain a formal discipline for the information management, data analytic platforms, data integration, and data interoperability domains, reporting to the Director of Data Technologies. This role is responsible for providing input into and delivering on solutions in partnership with the data analytics, database administration, enterprise architecture, data governance, business and clinical applications, technical operations, business operations, and clinical practice areas.
The Manager of Data Platforms Solutions will lead and oversee all phases of data development, system development and implementation process with functional management in the analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and ongoing support for data platform solutions in an environment of diverse development platforms, software, hardware, technology, and tools.
This role is part of the overall Fairview Data and Analytics function and will work in close partnership with the various leaders in this entity to build and enable an overall strategic plan to support the vision of the Chief Data and Health Informatics Officer and Director of Data Technologies.
Provides leadership and advocates for all the data analytics platforms and delivery capabilities including data visualization, natural language processing, advanced analytics and machine learning competences to the organization.
Responsible for broadly understanding and leading all associated healthcare Business Intelligence platform solutions necessary to enable and support the various data technologies across the enterprise. This includes all current data platform solutions and working with Data Technology and Analytic leadership to consolidate and streamline solutions, as well as identify new prospects and leading practices in the go-forward years.
Partnering with reporting and analytics to assist in developing data strategy and driving development of platforms that underlie critical applications by enabling data availability for our analytics and data science teams.
Lead programs that ensure data quality through data that is accurate, consistent and timely.
Develop and manage mechanisms to support master data precision and obtainability that enables our operational service lines pipeline decisions.
Partner with Data Stewards and Technical Data Stewards to influence and contribute to company-wide data approach and information assets.
Engage with Data Governance and Reporting and Analytics managers to ensure coverage of critical data sources and develop key metrics.
Partner with Data Technology and Analytic teams to develop solutions that accelerate and enable our analytics and machine learning portfolio.
Be passionate about data and partnering with Architecture and Data Governance to foster a data-driven culture across the Healthcare system.
Possess an advanced understanding of the healthcare industry and technologies, including the electronic health record (Epic) and other various on-premise and cloud-oriented data platforms and applications.
Provide the vision and guidance needed to continuously improve the skills, processes, competencies, capabilities, and knowledge of the data platform solutions team and their associated service models.
Poses technical depth and breadth across emerging trends and methodologies in database development to facilitate analysis of structured and unstructured data.
Work in close partnership with the CDHIO and IT teams to ensure strategic priorities are being met, technical solutions are value-added and cost-effective, and stakeholder value proposition is realized.
Provide ongoing direction (direct and indirect) to various stakeholders in a highly matrixed model – this includes technical and functional teams, and this also includes proactively receiving feedback and requirements from partner teams to ensure the reliable delivery of work that they rely on from this team.
Research, understand, and deploy leading technology practices and solutions while driving continuous improvements – build for the future while improving existing capabilities.
Ability to lead technical staff, both internal resources and external consultants. Previous experience working closely with external vendors to internalize capabilities and build competency of internal staff in data technologies.
Strong analytical skills to resolve technically complex problems and obtain end-user results.
Additional key responsibilities include a proficient understanding of various data integration methods, master data management, high performance computing methods, business intelligence platforms and advanced analytics.
- Undergraduate degree - Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems or combination of education and related work experience
5+ years Healthcare IT leadership, preferably in information management, data integration, data technologies, data analytics, or DevOps.
3+ years of experience managing enterprise software development teams.
7+ years of technical solutions experience.
3+ years of experience with MS SQL Server and/or Oracle.
2+ years of experience supporting healthcare stakeholders and solutions for hospital operations, clinical, revenue cycle, or other relevant areas.
2+ year experience with MS SharePoint Platform.
Experience mentoring and/or managing by individual development planning and SMART goal setting.
Has in-depth functional expertise and broad knowledge of data domain and data types used within Healthcare landscape.
Experience developing and supporting a team through data integration solutions in a healthcare environment utilizing EDI protocols and standards to integrate multiple systems.
Prior experience implementing data programs, specifically data governance and stewardship.
Excellent communication skills. Able to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders from senior leaders to engineers, and present to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Results-oriented with strong coaching, decision making, influencing, mentoring, negotiation, problem-solving and situational analysis skills.
