University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital is located on the west bank of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis. We provide a broad range of pediatric programs from surgery, imaging and neonatal and pediatric intensive care to cardiac and oncology (cancer care) services and blood and marrow and organ transplantation.

Newborn Family Care Center-Labor and Delivery/Postpartum:

  • 24 beds Mom/Baby private rooms – couplet Care – Baby Friendly certified.

  • RN’s must be BCLS and NRP certified, previous experience preferred.

  • Care delivery team: RN and NST/NA. Average of 3 couplets day/evening shift, 4 couples night shift.

  • Professional growth encouraged in professional certifications and/or IBCLC.

  • Inpatient Lactation Consultant on unit.

  • Classes on parenting, pregnancy, prenatal and infant care provided by Amma Parenting Center. New Born Loss available through the Fairview system.

  • New graduate Nurse positions (RN) are available.

  • Newborn IV antibiotic administration.

Care for both low and high risk maternity patients. Must be able to care for postpartum and newborn infants. Responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population.

This position will be working 64 hours every two weeks on the night shift, 8 hour shifts, every other weekend. The position is eligible for benefits.

Responsibilities/Job Description

  • Provides ante partum, intra care, and post partum care for pregnant patients and care to the newly born infant.

  • Manages complex medication and infusion therapies

  • Knowledge of medications and infusions such as, but not limited to:

  • Immunoglobulin therapy

  • Epidural infusions

  • Cervical ripening agents

  • Pitocin infusions

  • Regional analgesia

  • Epidural and intrathecal infusions

  • Tocolytic therapy

  • Methergine and hemabate injections

  • Insulin infusions

  • Cytotec therapy

  • Knowledge of patient monitoring such as, but not limited to:

  • Cardiac/telemetry monitoring

  • Fetal monitoring

  • Defibrillator

  • Knowledge and skill in the nursing role when caring for patients undergoing the following procedures/interventions:Circumcisions

  • Cesarean sections

  • Vacuum and forceps assisted deliveries

  • Newborn deliveries

  • Ultrasound

  • Percutaneous umbilical blood sampling

  • Fern and amnisure tests

  • BiliChecks

  • Newborn hearing screening



  • MN RN license
