Fairview Health Services Tax Accountant in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Overview

Fairview Health Services is looking for a tax accountant to work at one of our corporate offices in Minneapolis. This is a full-time position working day hours, Monday thru Friday.

The Tax Accountant is responsible for assisting with the accurate, complete and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual federal and state tax returns for multiple organizations within the Fairview health care system. This position will primarily work on payroll tax, but will also get exposure to income tax, sales tax as well as regulatory filings completed by the Tax and Research and Education Accounting groups within Corporate Finance. This position interacts with several groups throughout the organization both within and outside of Corporate Finance.

Responsibilities/Job Description

Payroll Tax

  • Maintains payroll tax files and completes returns and prepares deposits within specific deadlines.

  • Researches payroll tax issues and interfaces with Payroll to come to a timely resolution and facilitates corrections that are made.

  • Assists in ensuring that organizations are compliant with payroll tax laws and Fairview policies.

  • Supports the preparation and filing of Form W-2s.

  • Represents Tax Department in meetings with Payroll and HRIT.

Income Tax

  • Assists with the data gathering and data input for income tax returns and other reporting requirements.

  • Interfaces with members of Finance throughout the system to ensure accurate reporting of information.

  • Understands the flow of information from business operations through the general ledger system and onto the income tax work papers.

Sales Tax

  • Assists with data gathering from the Accounting and Accounts Payable teams and completes analysis required to prepare returns.

  • Participates in meetings with business units and product service lines to ensure that complete information is captured and reported on returns.

  • Assists with process improvement plans to correct errors and increase efficiency in reporting.

Research and Education Accounting

  • Assists with the gathering of information required to accurately account and report grant and research that is conducted within Fairview facilities.

  • Assists with the collection of data to accurately report medical education done at Fairview hospitals and clinics.

Other

  • Supports the timely and accurate filing of Minnesota Care Tax returns.

  • Assists with Hospital Annual Reports and Hospital Surcharge filing.

  • Participates in the process to report Unclaimed Property.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 0-2 years of related experience and/or internship during college

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other business field. Completed or working on Masters degree in Accounting or MBA

  • Two years of experience in tax

  • CPA
