The Emergency Medicine Vice President (VP) provides physician leadership and oversight for emergency medicine across the system and emergency physician practices and professional services contracts. Maintains a visible presence through regular daily rounding. Is the initial point of contact for concerns from physicians, staff, patients and families and determines/facilitates resolution of issues. Responsible for the implementation of policies, procedures and strategic plan.
Accountable for emergency medicine services across the system meeting targets for clinical quality, patient satisfaction, employee engagement, financial performance, research and education.
Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.
Sets performance standards, reviews performance, provides coaching, feedback and recognition on job performance on an ongoing and timely basis.
Drives employee selection or partners on contracted provider selection, and ensures employees or contracted providers are orientated to the organization, business unit and position.
Prepares/assists in the budget and financial forecast and monitors for monthly variances. Identifies, recommends and implements changes that will improve productivity and/or financial performance.
Coordinates physician services in the Emergency Department across the system.
Works with site emergency medicine medical directors and site RN clinical directors in managing the day-to-day activities of Emergency Departments.
Works to develop a collaborative work environment with emergency physicians, ED staff and medical staff physicians.
Develops and implements short and long term goals and objectives for Emergency Departments.
Provides key leadership in strategic planning efforts to advance overall quality and patient care.
Participates in Medical Staff meetings and conferences. Participates in periodic programs on Emergency Medicine
Fosters a culture of improvement, efficiency and innovative thinking.
Manages contracts for professional services for emergency medicine at those sites with contracted services. This includes contract negotiation, monitoring compliance with terms of contracts, performance of contracted groups, and management of performance payments.
Provide leadership, coaching, and serve as a role model for lean leadership utilizing principles and practices of the Fairview Operating System.
Assures plans for immediate response, investigation, and resolution for issues of reported clinical performance issues, and/or disruptive behavior in Emergency Departments.
Provides medical leadership for government, regulatory and compliance visits and surveys in Emergency Departments.
Partners closely with designated University physician leader to support the academic mission within the domain to include research and education.

Graduate of an accredited ACGME Emergency Medicine residency training program.
Board Certified with the American Board of Medical Specialties or American Osteopathic Association.
Licensed or ability to obtain Minnesota Board of Medical Practice Licensure.
Ability to obtain and /or maintain DEA certification for the State of Minnesota.
Meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges.
- Master’s in Business Administration, Masters in Medical Management, Masters in Healthcare Administration or Masters in Public Health
- 10 years of medical practice including administrative and/or managerial experience.
