Fairview Health Services Patient Access Representative in Saint Paul, Minnesota

Overview

Positon is located at the University Park Bldg - Midway Campus. Working with the laboratory Outreach teams by assisting with questions, working with team members and assisting clients to complete billing information. Provide assistance to outreach billing team and maintain a strong understanding of all functions within the team.

Responsibilities/Job Description

Sets up shell accounts created from the scheduling system to facilitate the registration process. Monitors and schedules appointments. Answers incoming customer calls and makes outgoing customer calls to obtain information to register patient accounts,

including entry of patient demographics and health insurance information into the HealthEast registration system.

Job Expectations Organization Expectations

  • Sets up shell accounts created from the scheduling system to facilitate the registration process. Ensures duplicate patients are not created to facilitate patient safety.

  • Answers incoming customer calls and makes outgoing customer calls to obtain information from patients, caregivers, or family members to register patient accounts, including entry of patient demographics and health insurance information.

  • Performs the admitting function for Midway Surgery Center. Provides information to patient regarding Patient Bill of Rights, Notice of Privacy Practices, Healthcare Directives and other pertinent information per state and federal regulations. Obtains required signatures according to departmental hospital policies and procedures. Scans/Photocopies insurance card(s) and other documents as required.

  • Works with interpreters to register non English speaking patients.

  • Verifies insurance eligibility through web based tools and flags accounts where the patient is found to have restricted access outside of the HE network so that the appointment is cancelled.

  • Estimates and collects patient liability for future visits. This includes co-payments, coinsurance, and deductible amounts for insured

patients as well as deposits on self pay accounts.

  • Screens uninsured patients to determine if they qualify for a funding source such as MA, MN Care, or Financial Aid/Charity Care. Routes the account appropriately for the funding source to be secured.

  • Facilitates appointment cancellations or reschedules as directed by the patient.

  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.

  • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements.

  • Performs other responsibilities as needed/assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent

  • 1 to 3 years experience in customer service, data entry, and 1 year of related medical office experience

Other Required Skills

  • Attention to Detail: Achieves thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task.

  • Computer Skills: Basic ability to use a computer and applications that are associated with performing basic work tasks (navigate in Windows, Outlook, epic EHR, etc.).

  • Data Entry: Skilled in entering data and calculating items for processing; input of data into computer systems.

  • Interpersonal Communication: Skilled in developing effective rapport with customers, co-workers, or families, actively listening to develop a positive connection.

  • Medical Terminology/Spelling: Familiar with medical terminology and medical spelling.

  • Organization: Effective management of projects, deadlines, and work load prioritizing; putting things together in an orderly and functional whole.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical terminology, experience in collections, scheduling and registration preferred.

  • Knowledge of medical insurance is preferred
