Fairview Health Services Tax Accountant in Saint Paul, Minnesota

Overview

The Tax Accountant is responsible for assisting with the accurate, complete and timely preparation of federal and state and local tax returns for multiple organizations within the Fairview Health Services system. This position will primarily work on federal, state, and unrelated business income tax but will also get exposure to other areas of taxation including Sales, MinnesotaCare taxes, and Unclaimed Property. This position interacts with several groups throughout the organization both within and outside of Corporate Finance.

Responsibilities Job Description

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the maintenance of tax records and with the data gathering for income tax returns and other reporting requirements.

  • Prepares and files federal state and local income tax returns (1120, 1065, 990, 990T, etc.)

  • Implements improvements to tax reporting and documentation.

  • Prepares taxable income projections, financial statements, and other tax reports.

  • Assists with tax return audits and compliance reports.

  • Implements tax-minimalization and tax risk management strategies

  • Monitors and resolves various tax notices

  • Interfaces with members of Finance throughout the system to ensure accurate reporting of information.

  • Understands the flow of information from business operations through the general ledger system and onto the income tax work papers.

  • Knowledge of accounting, federal and state taxation compliance, and federal and state income taxation laws.

  • Knowledge and skill in use of income tax preparation software for the preparation of federal, state and local and unrelated business tax return.

  • Ability to perform basic federal and state tax research to ensure compliance with applicable tax laws.

  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite with strong spreadsheet aptitude

  • Ability to maintain confidential information

  • Ability to work with tax, legal, finance, information systems, benefits and payroll departments

  • Ability to organize, prioritize and complete activities.

  • Ability to work under and within deadlines.

  • Written and verbal communication skills with sharp attention to detail.

Additional Duties

  • Supports other areas within Tax such as Sales and Use Taxes, Provider Taxes, and Unclaimed Property reporting.

  • Completing special projects and other administrative tasks, as required

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other Business field

  • One to Two years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two+ years related experience

  • Public Accounting experience

  • Nonprofit experience

  • CPA or Enrolled Agent
